Sample Preparation Technician

We are seeking a motivated and meticulous Sample Preparation Technician to join our chemical testing laboratory specialising in textiles. You will be responsible for receipt, storage and preparing textile and related samples for various types of chemical and textile related testing, along with participating in handover at the start and end of this process.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Confirming sample suitability in daily handover meetings with an adjacent department.
• Accurately preparing samples to specified dimensions and weights using scissors, blades, and mechanical tools.
• Labelling prepared samples accurately, ensuring smooth handover to laboratory technicians.
• Detailed and organised storage of active test samples for quick access.
• Coordination of additional priority sample requests from laboratory technicians.
• Maintaining a clean and well organised sample preparation room.
• Archive storage of samples when testing is completed.
• Disposal of excess samples.
• Adhere to all procedures to ensure the highest degree of quality.
• Always operate in a safe, organised, tidy, and clean manner.

Qualifications, Experience:

The ideal candidate will have:

• Minimum A-level or equivalent in sciences, textiles or related disciplines.
• GCSE English and Maths.
• Any textile relevant education or experience will be a distinct advantage.
• Experience in a relatable role will be an advantage.
• Excellent organisation with ability to prioritise and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong verbal communication with ability to work cooperatively and assertively.
• High attention to detail.
• Capacity for quick learning.
• Good computer literacy – Microsoft Office, experience of customised software.
