Earth Day 2022 – Invest in Our Planet
For the last half a century Earth Day’s mission has been to diversify, educate and activate environmental movement worldwide.
This year’s theme ‘Invest in Our Planet’, encourages individuals, businesses and governments to invest in technologies and practices that can benefit Earth.
With more than 190 countries engaged as well as 1 billion individuals taking action every year, we cannot ignore the impact the textile industry has on the environment.
Studies show that Gen Z and millennials are more likely to make the conscious effort to buy sustainable textiles. Whether that be buying second hand, doing their research on brands before purchasing, or buying good quality long lasting fabrics, these generations know their buying habits will have a long-lasting, positive effect on our environment.
But what about those that don’t do the research? How will they know which brands are sustainable? Which fabrics are safe for human health? And which garment workers are being paid a fair, living wage? The MADE IN GREEN® by OEKO-TEX® label is a traceable product label for all kinds of textiles. The label reassures customers that the textile product has been manufactured in environmentally friendly facilities under safe and socially responsible working conditions as well as providing reassurance that the garment or home textile has been tested for harmful substances.
The MADE IN GREEN® label can only be used on products that are STANDARD 100® certified and created in STeP® certified production facilities.
The STANDARD 100® label reassures the consumer that each component of the textile article has been tested for harmful substances and therefore is harmless to human health.
STeP by OEKO-TEX® is a comprehensive analysis and assessment of a sites production conditions, using 6 modules to analyse a facilities overall environmental impact.
Join us in our commitment to make the textile industry a safer and greener one - for people and the planet - by looking out for OEKO-TEX® labels the next time you’re shopping.
